Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley will be making a lot of press meets for the new film Never Let Me Go. The film is an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s acclaimed novel.

The film is directed by Mark Romanek and it also stars Sally Hawkins, Charlotte Rampling, Andrew Garfield, Andrea Riseborough and Nathalie Parsons. Here is small synopsis.

Never Let Me Go centers on three children, Ruth (Knightley), Kathy (Mulligan) and Tommy (Garfield), who spend their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.

The film has been tracking well after reviews from British press have been quite favorable. The film will be seen in major American festivals in the next couple of weeks.

Trailer Watch: The Town really glows

It is very unusual for a Hollywood blockbuster style film to have quite a lot of low angle shots. It is certainly a sign of progression. Ben Affleck really seems to be more seasoned after his debut film The Town. He really takes this one out of the park, but still around Boston.

Ben Affleck also stars in the film as a career criminal that has to deal with feelings for a bank manager Rebecca Hall connection to one of his earlier heists. He has also to deal with an FBI agent looking to bring him and his crew down.

The Town also boasts of an exceptional supporting cast of Jon Hamm, Chris Cooper, Blake Lively, Pete Postlethwaite and rising star Jeremy Renner.

The film is expected to come out on September 17 th 2010.

Trailer Watch: Anti Western film Red Hill

The tagline Revenge just rode into town is just something. It will not become as great as the John Hillcoat film The Proposition. But it will find a new audience. The film is called Red Hill and is directed by Patrick Hughes and stars True Blood fame actor Ryan Kwanten.

It is essentially a story about a police officer who moves to the small country town of Red Hill, but on his first day on the job, there is a prison break and a convicted murderer serving life behind bars makes his way out to seek revenge. It looks like the Australian version of No Country for Old Men, but shot mostly in the night.

Toronto will be the place where will get to see yet another independent film starring Keanu Reeves. The film will be directed by Malcolm Venville called Henry’s Crime. It is based on a screenplay by Sacha Gervasi.

Keanu Reeves will be starring alongside the beautiful Vera Farmiga and James Caan. It is a new wave romantic comedy with literary illusions, crime drama and some major life altering situations. This sounds like any other run of the mill indie flick. When will there be an “original” independent film coming out. The studios made huge hue and cry when Inception came out. They announced the new age for Hollywood. But when is this originality going to rub off on the indie film scene?

Reeves plays a Buffalo toll both attendant in the middle of an existential crisis. I can just hear Keanu Reeves saying that he has no clue what the clue is all about. It will also borrow some elements from Chekov’s plays. Here is a synopsis via TIFF.

After serving three years in prison for a bank robbery, he did not commit, an amiable, but aimless man decides to rob the bank for real. His plan involves infiltrating a local theatre company, but his scheme gets complicated when he falls for the company’s lead actress. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Vera Farmiga, James Caan, Fisher Stevens, Peter Stormare, Danny Hochand Bill Duke.

The film is expected to sign some deal when it premieres this week in the Toronto Film Festival.

The next film by Zhang Yimou brings him back to his roots. He is known for his subtle films. So here is another film, which is a love story called The Love of the Hawthorn Tree. The trailer looks really light on the eyes and none of the usual eye popping visuals come to mind.

The movie is based on a popular novel of the same name. It tells the story set around 1975 in a small village in Yichang City, Hubei Province. It depicts the pure love between a beautiful, but self contemptuous city girl named Jing Qiu and the handsome and ingenious young man Lao San.

Zhou Dongyu, who plays Jing Qiu, and Don Xiao, who plays Lao San, are still students and have never, worked in film or TV drama. Zhou was a high school student when she was picked for the role. The film is expected to hit theaters in China on September 16 th. Check out the images and trailer above and tell us what you think of this romantic film.

Eva Green seems to fall into some pretty moody films with her last couple of choices. Her last film Cracks was a really accomplished work on her part. She really has come out and become a powerful independent actress after her act in the Bond films.

The new film Womb stars Eva alongside Matt Smith. It has been acquired by Olive Films for a US release.

The film was written and directed by Benedek Fliegauf. It follows Rebecca who has waited twelve long years to be reunited with her childhood sweetheart, only to lose him again in a fatal accident. The only great twist in this film is the fact that she can bring him back to life at will. The film will screen at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.

The trailer for the film does not really give a us a good idea of what to expect from the film. The new film directed by Stephen Frears was first seen at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The festival goers were happy after watching the film, but were not sure why it was put in the line up. The film is an adaptation of a graphic novel.

Gemma Arterton stars in the film as title character. It is a modern take on the book by Thomas Hardy called Far from the Madding Crowd. It is a simple and charming film, which really has nothing going for it. Here is a synopsis of the film.

Based on Posy Simmonds’ beloved graphic novel of the same name (which was itself inspired by Thomas Hardy’s classic Far From the Madding Crowd), this wittily modern take on the romantic English pastorale is a far cry from Hardy’s Wessex. Tamara Drewe’s present-day English countryside-stocked with pompous writers, rich weekenders, bourgeois bohemians, a horny rock star, and a great many Buff Orpington chickens and Belted Galloway cows-is a much funnier place. When Tamara Drewe sashays back to the bucolic village of her youth, life for the locals is thrown tail over teakettle. Tamara-once an ugly duckling-has been transformed into a devastating beauty (with help from plastic surgery). As infatuations, jealousies, love affairs and career ambitions collide among the inhabitants of the neighboring farmsteads, Tamara sets a contemporary comedy of manners into play using the oldest magic in the book-sex appeal.

Gemma stars alongside Roger Allem, Bill Camp, Dominic Cooper, Luke Evans, and Tamsin Greig. The film is directed as we mentioned above by the man behind films like The Grifters, High Fidelity, Dangerous Liasons, The Queen and several other small great fares. Latest Character Spots for Machete

TV Spots for the upcoming film Machete starring Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez have appeared online. They look really mean and bad ass. It is one of those Grindhouse flicks from the director’s collaboration with Quentin Tarantino.

The spots show us that Danny Trejo is not the only person destroying things around him. The cast of the film also includes Robert De Niro, Cheech Marin and Steven Seagal.

The film’s plot revolves around the renegade Machete, who is attempting to keep a low profile after a violent encounter with Texan drug lord Torrez. He is also double crossed by a shady spin doctor named Benz during a mission to kill the corrupt Senator McLaughlin, he sets out on a quest for revenge.

Machete receives help from Luz played by the saucy Rodriguez. He is also pursued by an ICE agent played by Alba. The trigger happy McLaughlin is quite taken by the assassination attempt on him and wants to get back somehow.

The film will surely cash in on all the mindless carnage and dark humor. It is going to be another exploitation film that will get the audience rushing to see the ladies. Lindsay Lohan is also in the mix.

Machete will be coming out in theaters on September 3 rd 2010.

Ryan Gosling gets a date for All Good Things

Magnolia Pictures finally picks up the Ryan Gosling starring picture All Good Things. It is directed by Andrew Jarecki. It is going to be a dramatic murder mystery that was supposed to be released by the Weinsteins, but went back to the filmmaker.

Magnolia Pictures had asked us to take it down.

Finally Magnolia will be distributing the film. It is expected to hit theaters sooner than before. The first film by the director Andrew Jarecki will be released along the same month another Sundance hit starring Ryan Gosling will be released called Blue Valentine.

The film is written by Marcus Hinchey, Marc Smerling and Jarecki. It unlocks the mystery of a unique man who could have had it all. It is set against the extravagance and excess of New York City in the 80s. David Marks played by Gosling, is the son of a powerful real estate tycoon and he marries a beautiful working class student Katie played by Kirsten Dunst. They flee the city together for an idyllic country life in Vermont. But soon David is lured back to his dad’s business. But as Katie gets back to her old life she goes back to med school and begins to make a life of her own. She soon becomes increasingly independent. David slowly turns violent and controlling. Katie disappears without a trace and bit by bit family secrets get revealed.

After couple of years, Katie’s best friend also turns up dead. A struggling cop and an eager reporter team together to reopen the unsolved case. David is now the prime suspect. The secrets get revealed to a disturbing end.

This film will be one of the highlights of this year. It might just pull of something from under the spring of Fall releases.

Trailer watch: Geoffrey Rush stars in Eye of the Storm

Fred Schepisi has finally found some work and got a great cast for his next film called The Eye of the Storm. The film stars Charlotte Rampling, Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis.

The story centers on a powerful, ex-socialite matriarch and the array of characters. This includes her actor son and her daughter married into French royalty. All of them convene at her deathbed and find themselves still under her destructive influence.

The film looks like one of those fluffy Oscar baits, which will certainly be done well. The only difference is that the main character is a female protagonist. It is based on a script by Judy Morris, the film also stars Alexandra Schepisi, Robyn Nevin, Colin Friels, John Gaden and Helen Morse. It is expected to come out sometime in 2011. The film will be followed by us in the coming months.
